The nuvi 5000 Provides a superior viewing perspective for street navigation without continuously having to zoom in and out!!
This is the most basic function of a GPS unit yet it is seldom discussed. Go figure!
The 800*480 quality display shows more surrounding streets and their names. For the first time I can see how to navigate out of a neighborhood which has been designed to be difficult to just pass-thru.

I don’t need a battery for in-car use only. The voice (Jill ) is superior to the other Garmins. My car has BlueTooth but that is reserved for my phone. The Garmin BASE connection allows the stereo audio cable (to the car stereo’s aux input) to stay connected even when I hide the 5000. Very nice! Also Jill voice has less distortion when playing through the internal speakers than the other smaller GPS units.
I gave my son the 760 and my wife has a 750.

The new features on Garmin’s (lane guidance) don’t work that well. Or to few photo pics. Amazon and Consumer Reports reviews are usually more helpful, but not this time.
At half-off the 5000 is quite a deal especially to instantaneously make a determination of which side streets to take.

Important update Notes: Owners are urged to set the display to maximum detail. It is an awesome sight to be driving on a freeway and learn so much about the surrounding area.
The 5000 is a lot safer in use than virtually all other GPS units. It is the least distracting as less there is less driver zooming and scrolling. Further the display automatically zooms in when approaching a complicated intersection then zooms back out.
Another nice detail is the stereo audio jock is incorporated into the base, so the stereo mini-jack cable can stay connected while hiding the unit.

We love this product ! Bought it to replace the built in one when we sold our car.Has a larger screen than most portables and we like the ability to have the audio come thru the car’s sound system.
