Garmin nüvi 265T Excellent budget GPS

We had purchased this GPS a year ago and it’s a basic GPS with a great feature, the Traffic notification/detour capability.

Few days ago, we took a trip into Boston, about 50 minutes drive with no traffic. Checking the Google map traffic feature showed very heavy traffic on Rt93 N where it branched off from Rt 95 as well as the lower part of the Southeast Expressway (Rt 3).

When programmed for Chinatown as the destination, the GPS reported no traffic on route. I though something must be wrong. We then looked at the detailed route and saw it took some local streets and bypassed the heaviest section of Rt93 and got us back on to Southeast Expressway north of the congestion.

Even though about 1/4 of the drive was local street, the detour took an extra 10 minutes compare to a no traffic highway drive. When we drove over Rt93 at speed, we looked down and saw bumper to bumper traffic as far as we could see.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I would prefer no one buys this GPS because it would put more people on the same road I took.

Aside from that, it does what it’s asked and have no problems so far. It’s a great price for a simple GPS with a great feature.

Garmin nüvi 265T Excellent Graphics and Easy to Use

The Garmin Nuvi 265T is an outstanding GPS. The technology surrounding this GPS is second to none. It is easy to use and provides excellent graphics. Once you take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the GPS, it basically works on its own. Just recently I needed to find a local address that I was not familiar with. I typed in the address, and found the location without any problems. It is a must have for anyone who has problems locating addresses. I am from a small rural community and it proves its worth every day. I can’t imagine living in a large metropolitan area and not having one. I plan on buying another one for my other vehicle in the not too distant future.

Garmin nüvi 265T Excellent portable GPS; 5th star for the Amazon price

The Garmin Nuvi 265T (with discounts offered when we bought it) is a great value, and offers all the essentials for a basic, truly portable, GPS. The bonus of prepaid lifetime access to basic traffic alerts is a welcome extra. The “small” screen size is more than compensated for by its ease of portability and mounting for use. The Bluetooth capability is also very good, apparently, though we have no use for it.

The Garmin online support, .pdf manuals, and wide-ranging downloadable maps is outstanding, and serves both Mac and Windows owners well and essentially equally. Updates at this time appear to be readily available for both platforms and include updated firmware for the model owned.

We were pleasantly surprised to get an included update of N. American maps if downloaded within 30 days– more than fair. Paid updates are also reasonable in price, in contrast to Toyota’s charge of $250, the last I checked, for an new DVD, updated every 3, years for Toyota factory installed GPSs.

Finally, thank you, Garmin, for sponsoring a world class bicycle racing team.
